Final Learning Reflection

As we are coming to an end of the spring semester in the class of psychology, I am going to write this blog post of most of the things that we discussed in this class. At the very beginning of the class, we went over simply how to make a blogger page! We soon later learned about the history of psychology and what makes it important. We learned about the brain and how it behaves, and sensation and perception. Nature vs. nurture and also a lot about personality. Learned about memory, motivation, and emotions. Lastly, we learned about psychological disorders and mental health! Some of the topics that stood out to me the most was learning about psychological disorders and mental health. These stood out to me the most because I learned about things that I've personally been through and how to understand them more. Going back to the in-class meetings, the two that stood out to me the most were when the PTSD gentlemen came to talk to our class and tell us more about the issue that he went/was going through and it made me realize how real everything about PTSD is. I never really took it that seriously because I was never around that kind of disorder in my life. But all the main symptoms he had I could relate to because most of my family had been through those feelings. Another in-class meeting that stood out to me was when the one lady came and made us do the two assignments being trying to guess who we were and standing on a wooden plank trying to get to different sides not being able to talk or fall off the plank. I really liked it because I'm not one to be big into teamwork or anything like that, I would much rather just do things on my own but being in a serious relationship with someone it's nothing but teamwork and it was nice to learn about how to really communicate with your partner the right way and the way not to really communicate. The number one experimental task that I really liked was the last one, M7 Task and there were many different things that you could do for this task like finding your strengths, finding positive things in your life and writing them down, and doing an awe walk. I chose to find my three greatest strengths and wrote on how I can use them in my day-to-day life and did. I think this task stood out to me the most because I loved going to read other people's post about the task and most of them were finding three positive things in their daily lives. It was really encouraging to see that my classmates really tried on this task and I really liked to see that they were really finding something good in their lives. And this was also the one blog post I actually enjoyed doing and reading about. The one person who I really liked seeing comments from was Jordan! He was always so kind and even gave some things that I could work on in my post. He was very encouraging and also had some really great things on his blog! The biggest thing that stood out to me from this class was learning in class about suicide and depression. Many of my family members have either committed suicide or have depression so it was really nice to learn about why some people feel this way and what we can do to help these people. This affected my personal life in so many ways because of everything that I have been through. My father committed suicide and I learned that men his age were the ones more likely to do this to themselves. I had no idea about this and I did not know the signs of depression and after learning about it I finally know the signs and how to somewhat help a person in my life who is suffering from depression and how to also protect myself from getting low and thinking awful things. Overall, this was a great class to take even though I just want to me a math teacher! It was great learning about these things.
