Final Learning Reflection

As we are coming to an end of the spring semester in the class of psychology, I am going to write this blog post of most of the things that we discussed in this class. At the very beginning of the class, we went over simply how to make a blogger page! We soon later learned about the history of psychology and what makes it important. We learned about the brain and how it behaves, and sensation and perception. Nature vs. nurture and also a lot about personality. Learned about memory, motivation, and emotions. Lastly, we learned about psychological disorders and mental health! Some of the topics that stood out to me the most was learning about psychological disorders and mental health. These stood out to me the most because I learned about things that I've personally been through and how to understand them more. Going back to the in-class meetings, the two that stood out to me the most were when the PTSD gentlemen came to talk to our class and tell us more about the issue that he went...

M7 task

For this task I decided to do task number 3. Which is the strengths exercise. I was suppose to take the test to find my top three strengths and use them in my every day life within the week. My top three strengths are 1. Appreciation, 2. Gratitude, 3. Self-control. I thought long and hard of three ways I could use each of things and to be honest, it was actually a little hard to think of all three. For appreciation, I thought I could start telling people in my life how much I appreciate them and everything that they have done for me. And the second thing was just simply appreciating how my life is right now and everything happening in it. For the first example I used this a lot. I went up to my mom actually and told her that I appreciate her and she actually started crying, it hurt my heart more than anything to actually see that she didn’t feel appreciated. It was a really big eye-opener. And for the second part I just had to sit alone and write in my journal everything in my life and...

#CounselorsHelp

https://twitter.com/stormeylmao/status/984488195646742528 Here is where I posted about April being mental health awareness month and how a counselor has impacted my life in a major way. Doing this on my social media was super different for me because I never post how I am feeling or what I am going through on social media because frankly I don't think it is any of their business but this topic was really different for me. Going to counseling really helped me in my life at a young age and I wanted to share with people that it is okay to get help and to talk about your problems to someone that can actually help you in your life. I think that social media can be a really big step on getting people to realize that they are not alone in this world. That there is someone out there who can help you and get you on the right path on your life.

This movement was for the women and men that had been sexually assaulted in their lives but either have never told anyone about it or they have and they probably were not taken seriously, which tends to happen a lot. When I was 13 years old I was sexually assaulted by my step dad. I let it go on for nearly two years before I told anyone because I was so scared of what would happen. When I finally told my school counselor my step dad was kicked out of my house by CPS and my mother actually left with him leaving me to take care of myself and my little brother. I never told anyone about it after except for the people I really trust the most. The reason I finally told someone was because I realized that this is not normal, no one should ...

M4 Task

I chose to do the second option for this post. The one where you say a list to someone and then you as them to write down the words that they heard to see what they remembered. With this option I used my mother to help me with this. I read the first list out loud to her and she wrote down the words that she remembered. Then I did the same with the second list that was a little longer. She has an awful memory so her lists were a bit short but I actually asked her if she wrote down or remembered me saying some words that actually weren't on the list and she said yes. Why did she do this? This is based off of a "false memory". Why do you thing our brains actually do this to us? When I showed her the list that I called out to her she was shocked to see that those words she swore she heard wasn't actually on there she was very confused. It was hard for me to explain to her "false memory" because she's a little stubborn but I finally got it into her head that ...

Memory Reflection Blog

For this weeks blog post I am going to talk about memory, well, more of alzheimer's disease. I have genetics of this disease ad I have grown up seeing most of my older family members going through this. Although some of the things that they would say were pretty funny, it was more sad to see that they actually have no idea who they are talking to when they were talking to me. Memory is an amazing thing. No matter what we are doing we are making memories even though we may not remember most of the things. I can still remember whenI saw snow for the first time when I was 4 years old. How crazy is that? I don't know how long I'm actually going to remember this memory for but the fact that i still remember it now is amazing

Learning

What is learning? Learning is all based on life experiences and somewhat how you grew up. Some people think that they can only learn a certain way (visual, hands-on) but that is actually a myth. Learning can happen at any place at any time. Even from me writing this blog post, I am learning what to write by the things that I am studying for this. With the experiments with animals and to get them to do things a certain way they will put them in certain situations to make them learn. When a mouse is put into a maze and their is a piece of cheese at the end of it, the mouse will eventually find the end but the next time they do the maze they will of had it memorized so that they can get the piece of cheese faster.
